Military PFC modules

10 August 2016 Power Electronics / Power Management

SynQor announced the release of its newest military PFC module, a power factor correction building block for AC-DC power conversion. When used with SynQor’s AC line filter, a hold-up capacitor and SynQor’s high efficiency DC-DC converters, it draws a nearly perfect sinusoidal current (PF >0,99) from a single-phase AC input and provides a complete front-end system that is designed to comply with MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-1399 and MIL-STD-461 (with AC filter).

The MPFC-U-390-QP and MPFC-115-270-QP deliver 350 W of output power in an industry standard quarter-brick package (38,1 x 60,96 x 12,7 mm) while achieving 95% efficiency at full load. The MPFC-U-390-QP accepts a universal input voltage range of 85–264 Vrms with a 390 V d.c. output, while the MPFC-115-270-QP operates from 85–180 Vrms with 270 V d.c. output. Both operate through the 50/60/400/800 Hz frequency ranges, draw an AC current with only 3% THD, have a power enable/disable feature and provide a 10 V d.c. auxiliary bias supply.

Offered in a fully encased and ruggedised package, these PFC modules can operate from -55°C to +100°C baseplate temperature and are perfectly suited for the harsh environments seen in many military and aerospace applications that demand a low profile and extended temperature operation in a small space.
