QA adds new test probe tip styles

7 September 2016 Test & Measurement

Printed circuit board test points and finishes are constantly changing to meet the requirements for faster, more powerful and durable devices while utilising chemistries designed to reduce their environmental footprint. QA Technology works closely with its customers to develop tip styles to meet these challenging applications through reliable contact and long life.

Sharp spear

The company has added a new 31-S sharp spear steel tip style for its 075-25 conventional and X50-25 X Probe Socketless series products. The new tip design increases the contact pressure on the unit under test through its unique geometry, improving the reliability of testing on heavily oxidised pads, flux-coated solder domes, OSP and similar finishes.

In addition to this new tip, the company has improved the geometry of its existing 100-2531 and X75-2531 to offer a sharper and more durable tip.

Razor

QA Technology also added the 8R razor tip style to its 1,00 mm conventional and X31 socketless, and 10,16 mm long stroke probes series. This 150° shallow angle razor is designed to contact filled or solder pasted vias, reducing the chance of being blocked by a pool of flux.

In conjunction with this new tip style and today’s demand for higher spring forces, the company introduced a new ‘H’ high-spring option with a 170 gm spring. Higher spring forces, paired with a proper tip style, can increase first pass yields and reduce false failures with hard to test board processes.
