PMICs to drive power semiconductor market growth

News
Power management markets continue to outperform the overall semiconductor industry, according to a new report from Databeans. Discrete power (which includes power transistors, rectifiers and thyristors) is expected to grow by 3%, however integrated circuits used in power management, such as voltage regulators, battery management and supporting power products, are expected to grow by 9%, driving the overall power management market to close to $27 billion this year.
Following trend, the analog market continues to consolidate with several large announcements that will greatly affect the power management supply landscape. Earlier in the year, MediaTek announced plans to acquire Richtek, which reported nearly $400 million in power management IC sales in 2015.
More recently, Analog Devices announced plans for the acquisition of Linear Technology and Japanese microcontroller giant Renesas has announced that it will acquire Intersil. Both Linear Technology and Intersil are significant players in the analog power IC market.
Databeans estimates that the acquisition of Linear Technology will move Analog Devices up in supplier rankings by revenue, with over 10% share after the transaction closes, making the company the second largest supplier after Texas Instruments for analog power ICs.
Databeans provides a tracker covering forecasts on power management products which include discrete power as well as analog power ICs. Forecasts are provided by region, market segment, application and product type. Market share is also provided.
