Kemet’s FC series of supercapacitors (also known as electric double-layer capacitors, or EDLCs), are surface mount components intended for high energy storage applications. They are designed specifically for reflow soldering, allowing them to be attached to a printed circuit board (PCB) directly.
Supercapacitors have characteristics somewhere between traditional capacitors and batteries. As a result, they can be used like a secondary battery when applied in a DC circuit. These devices are best suited for use in low-voltage DC hold-up applications such as embedded microprocessor systems with Flash memory.
