Jemstech: A quality proposition

EMP 2017 Electronics Manufacturing & Production Handbook Manufacturing / Production Technology, Hardware & Services

Jemstech was founded as a private company in 2005, and is well known in the industry as a quality PCB assembly house in South Africa. For the past decade the company has served defence, aerospace and specialised commercial clients, with a strong focus on quality from single prototypes through to volume production.

From humble beginnings at the CSIR technological hub in Pretoria, Jemstech grew to the point where it relocated to its current headquarters at Route 21 Corporate Park in Irene. Its dedicated assembly facility is now in excess of 1500 m², and is environmentally controlled and ESD compliant, with a business management system (BMS) certified to ISO9001:2015.

With a proven track record of fostering long-term, stable and mutually profitable relationships with its clients, the company provides electronics manufacturing together with the technical support services required to assist its clients throughout the production cycle of their electronic products. It also boasts a deep understanding of the wider business needs associated with the subcontracting of its clients’ product manufacturing.

Jemstech’s SMT lines are optimised to support its customers’ requirements for volume, mix and complexity-compliant with IPC 610 Class 2 and Class 3. Its SMT lines are capable of placing up to 50 000 components per hour down to 01005 chip components, and its production processes allow for both leaded and lead-free assembly.

Newly acquired, leading edge 3D automatic optical inspection (AOI) machines are employed to inspect for reflow manufacturing defects, pre and post reflow, to ensure that the manufacturing process delivers a high yield. The company’s state of the art X-ray machine is used for in-house process verification to ensure that it can produce quality assemblies with confidence.
