Flexible chip mounters

Hanwha Precision Machinery (previously Samsung Techwin) launched the new SM Plus series of flexible chip mounters, which can handle a variety of components ranging from 01005 up to 55 mm IC parts and 75 mm connector parts. It supports a polygon recognition algorithm to provide an optimum solution for the recognition of odd-shaped parts.

The SM Plus series evolved from the previous generation SM series of which some 15 000 machines have been sold worldwide since its launch in 2005. The new lineup consists of three different platforms, namely the SM482 Plus (1 head x 6 spindle/30 000 CPH), SM481 Plus (1 head x 10 spindle/40 000 CPH) and SM471 Plus (dual gantry, 10 spindle x 2 heads/78 000 CPH).

Optimised for various production environments, the SM Plus range offers high placement speed and accuracy by applying a flying head mechanism with optimised pickup/placement motion. Since it performs part recognition without stopping after part pickup, by applying its original on-the-fly image recognition technology, the SM Plus series maximises part placement speed by minimising the time to move between the pickup position and placement position and by reducing the recognition time to almost zero.

The new two-stage placement system and extended conveyor allows the production of long boards with lengths of up to 1500 mm on the SM481 Plus and 1200 mm on the SM482 Plus.
