The MP8860 from Monolithic Power Systems is a synchronous 4-switch integrated buck-boost converter, which is capable of regulating the output voltage from 2,8 V to 22 V input voltage range with high efficiency. The integrated output voltage scaling and adjustable output current limit functions fit the USB Power Delivery (PD) requirement.
The device uses constant-on-time control in buck mode and constant-off-time control in boost mode, providing fast load transient response as well as smooth buck-boost mode transient. It provides auto PFM/PWM (pulse frequency modulation/ pulse width modulation) or forced PWM switching modes, and a programmable output constant current limit which supports flexible design for different applications.
The MP8860 also features over-current, over-voltage and under-voltage protection, programmable soft-start and thermal shutdown protection.
Also available is the MP8862, which offers output current up to 2 A, compared to the MP8860’s 1 A. Both devices have an I²C interface and are supplied in a 16-pin QFN (3 x 3 mm) package.
