AAD announces distribution agreement with Microchip Technology

20 March 2013 News

In August last year, Arrow Electronics secured a distribution agreement with Microchip Technology which extends to South Africa’s Arrow Altech Distribution (AAD) as one of Arrow’s operating companies.

The agreement covers Microchip’s complete line of 8-bit and 32-bit PIC microcontrollers, analog and interface semiconductors, wireless solutions and memory devices, along with related development tools.

Mitch Little, Microchip’s vice president of Worldwide Sales and Applications, was quoted as saying “Arrow is a premier distributor, with full-service operations around the globe to assist with Microchip-based designs. And Arrow is already franchised with SMSC products. This partnership is an important part of our ongoing efforts to make it easier for customers to create successful end products”. Little’s reference to SMSC (Standard Microsystems Corporation) related to Microchip’s acquisition of the company earlier that year.

During his recent visit to South Africa to commemorate the appointment of AAD as a Microchip distributor, Norbert Siedhoff (Microchip sales director - Europe) commented: “We admire Arrow Altech Distribution’s corporate culture which places emphasis on their success and that of their customers and partners.

“We have a high level of confidence in Arrow Altech Distribution’s expertise, infrastructure and ability to support Microchip’s broad product line in South Africa. Further, they are ideally placed to serve the South African electronics market in which they are extremely well established.”

Andre du Preez, general manager: Supplier Marketing and Business Development at AAD adds: “We are both delighted and excited that our relationship with Microchip has been renewed again through this global agreement between Arrow Electronics and Microchip Technology. It is like a family being reunited after a long absence.

“Arrow Altech Distribution’s relationship with Microchip goes as far back as 1992 when Pace Electronic Components (an Altech subsidiary), was appointed as their first distributor in South Africa. We were the pioneers that launched and developed the market for Microchip’s famous 8-bit microcontrollers and user friendly development tools.

“Microchip has since expanded their product range significantly which will further strengthen our line card and solutions offering to our broad customer base. We look forward to working with the local and international Microchip teams and we are confident that the relationship will go from strength to strength in the future.”

AAD will be locally supported by Microchip’s representative Willem Hijbeek.
