NuVision scoops Digi-Key agency

20 April 2016 News

NuVision Electronics has been appointed the official authorised reseller for Digi-Key products in southern Africa. The deal gives customers access to the entire Digi-Key portfolio of products through NuVision’s local offices.

Digi-Key is an authorised distributor of electronic components for more than 650 industry-leading suppliers. This gives its customers the peace of mind that the product they order is authentic and comes to Digi-Key directly from the manufacturer. At any given time, more than 1,2 million products are in stock and ready to be shipped from Digi-Key’s headquarters in Minnesota, USA. That means there are no lead times for in-stock products.

As one of the fastest growing distributors of electronic components in the world, Digi-Key has, since its founding in 1972, been committed to offering the broadest selection of in-stock electronic components, as well as providing the best service possible to its customers, aiding engineers through the entire design process, from prototype to production. This has led the company to be highly ranked year after year in industry surveys, in North America as well as Europe and Asia, in categories covering such facets of business as availability of product, speed of service, responsiveness to problems, and more.

NuVision Electronics, founded in 2004, is a specialist South African distributor of semiconductor and allied electronic components. With offices in Johannesburg, Pretoria and Cape Town, the company provides advanced technical solutions to the local electronic development and production industries.

With access to the full product range available at Digi-Key, NuVision is better positioned than ever to offer local customers a wide range of solutions, from small prototype/pre-production quantities to large-volume production requirements in manufacturing. NuVision has access to all the available web tools on the Digi-Key website and can upload customers’ bills of materials (BOM) for specific products or projects, and store them for future use.

Over and above providing an expanded product offering, this partnership allows NuVision to provide its customers with benefits such as invoicing in South African Rands (ZAR); provision of credit terms to approved, regular customers; payment via EFT for non-account customers; no minimum order value applicable for shipments from Digi-Key; and no clearance or disbursement charges applicable on imported shipments.

Additionally, there are no freight charges on inbound Digi-Key shipments, albeit that there may be an exception to the free shipping for excessively bulky or heavy items. There is no requirement to register as a regular importer for customers that purchase more than twice per year from an international source, and where possible (dependent on line MOQ and manufacturer) NuVision will strive to quote a comparable local ZAR price as per the Digi-Key price in US dollars.

As to the details of how logistics will be handled, NuVision Electronics currently has two consolidated shipments per week from Digi-Key, these being on a Tuesday and a Friday of every week. Cut-off times to make these shipment days is for purchase orders to reach it by 16:30 of the day prior to shipment release.

All shipments are sent via the UPS courier network and typical turnaround time for any given shipment is 3 to 5 working days, depending on customs clearance and airline scheduling. A local delivery charge of R85.00 is levied for all orders with sales value of below R3000, and is applicable to main centres only; deliveries to outlying local areas will be quoted on a case by case basis. Shipments outside of the current consolidation schedule can be done on request but may be subject to an added delivery fee – this will be communicated as and when it occurs.
