Techmet holds productive seminars at customer sites

9 November 2016 News

During the week of 17 to 21 October, Techmet Equipment was joined by two of its supplier partners – Panasonic Factory Solutions Asia Pacific and Pemtron – to host a mini seminar at two of its customers’ premises. The content was focused on Smart Factory and Industry 4.0 initiatives to optimise the efficient running of an electronics manufacturing facility in today’s markets.

“The venues were selected based on their direct access to the various equipment platforms that formed part of the presentations made to the various attendees,” explains Techmet’s Grant Langley. “The attendance at both venues, one in Johannesburg and one in Durban, were good with both venues exceeding expectations.”

The seminars were held at the premises of Techmet clients Altech UEC (above) and Proactive Manufacturing Solutions (below).

The KZN leg of the seminar was hosted at Altech UEC’s Mount Edgecombe factory. “For both our suppliers this venue is their largest installation base and we were granted access to their state-of-the-art production facility to engage with customers at the proverbial coal face to show just how advanced the various technology platforms are. This in turn also allowed the attendees to experience the vast manufacturing capabilities of this plant,” says Langley.

The Johannesburg leg of the seminar was hosted by Proactive Manufacturing Solutions. “This company has been providing turnkey electronics manufacturing services for over 12 years,” Langley states, “and in 2016, the owners chose to invest in their own SMT and PCB assembly facility to enable them to provide a fast, high-quality service to their growing customer base.”

Topics that were discussed at great length included manufacturing for an advanced supply chain; Smart Factory and M2M communications; flexible solutions for odd form insertion; M2M closed loop and feedback solutions with various platforms. Panasonic and Pemtron also took the opportunity to introduce their new machine models to attendees.

“The topics are not new to the global electronics manufacturing sector and it is great that these global suppliers have chosen to share their vast experience in these fields with customers in SA. The size of the seminar allowed both customers and suppliers to interact on a very personal level, with the exchange of information being the key topic during breaks,” Langley concludes.
