Ian McEvoy, Managing Director of DEK Printing Machines, has been appointed to lead the IPC SMEMA Council for 2001. As Chair of the Council, McEvoy will be responsible for setting the tone and direction of SMEMA's activities and leading the council's steering committee.

One of his first actions was to issue a call to all members to actively participate in the development of the organisation. McEvoy says the most important role of the SMEMA Council is to focus on customers and keep in tune with the needs of the end user. To maintain this focus, says McEvoy, all members will have to actively contribute their knowledge and insight of the rapidly changing electronics market.
The call to action was made in a letter to members which detailed the goals McEvoy would like to achieve during his year in office. "The challenge now for IPC is to facilitate advancement through world-class educational and technical programs, and to establish relevant, usable and accessible standards that enable our industry to work and move forward together," he says.
McEvoy has a distinguished history in the electronics industry. His career has included serving as Manufacturing Director at Domino Printing Sciences, an earlier tenure as General Manager at DEK, and a position as Vice President of Surface Mount Systems with Universal Instruments.
The IPC SMEMA Council is made up of suppliers to the electronics assemblers, particularly equipment manufacturers. It initiates and drives technical, managerial and financial programmes to enhance the working relationships and equipment compatibility within the electronics assembly industry. The IPC is a US-based trade association dedicated to furthering the competitive excellence and financial successes of its members worldwide, who are participants in the electronics interconnect industry.
