New management for Siemens Components

News
Chief Executive of Siemens Southern Africa, Dr Klaus Döring, has announced that new management has been appointed to coordinate the future components interests of the local company.
The development came as a result of the international formation of Infineon Technologies, the semiconductor manufacturer and EPCOS, which specialises in passive components. Siemens' interests in electromechanical components were sold to US company Tyco. Both Infineon and EPCOS are public companies in which Siemens of Germany has direct interests.
Edwin Brown takes over from Bob Welsh from 1 July 2001. Says Döring: "Since having joined the Components Business Unit twelve years ago, Bob has engineered much success, especially with the turnover contribution per sales head of R281 000 growing to a remarkable R32m today. At the same time business volume increased by at least 30% per annum. The positive business and productivity developments came as a result of a focus on growth through professional consultation and project management, rather than itemised sales."
Brown has 20 years' experience in the South African electronics industry and joined Siemens in 1985. He is qualified in electronics, sales and marketing management and is currently busy with an SBL programme towards his MBA degree. Brown was nominated sales person of the year for several years in succession and has attended technical seminars at numerous Siemens, EPCOS and Infineon premises worldwide.
Says Brown: "Together with a dedicated team of electronic experts we will apply our foundation of knowledge in the best interests of our customers. This energy will cascade as value additions to their own business processes. Our conduct will also extend to the continued development of the components industry as a whole and the maintenance of industry relevant business principles."
Brown states that the future of the Siemens Components group also depends on the creative identification of applications for technological solutions. He says that in this regard the company has already identified a myriad of opportunities, which would attempt to bridge the digital divide in many communities.
"The sales agreement with Siemens Components' sole distributor Electrocomp will continue so as to further support our broad-based clients in commerce and industry," he concludes.
