Executive promotions at Avnet Electronics Marketing, Avnet Computer Marketing
30 January 2002
News
Avnet Chairman and CEO Roy Vallee has announced the 30 June, 2002 planned retirement of Brian Hilton, President of Avnet's largest global operating group, Avnet Electronics Marketing. For Hilton's successor, Vallee has tapped a 20-year Avnet veteran, Andrew (Andy) Bryant, who is currently the President of Avnet Computer Marketing, the company's $2,85 bn global operating group specialising in the marketing of enterprise computing products. In turn, 18-year Avnet veteran Richard Hamada has been promoted to President of Avnet Computer Marketing, effective immediately.
Brian Hilton enjoyed a 30-year career at Motorola, culminating with his post as Corporate Vice President and Director of World Marketing for Motorola Semiconductor Products Sector. Avnet's Vallee recruited him in 1997 to lead the charge as the company expanded its electronic components distribution business in Asia. It was agreed at the time that Hilton would work full-time for about five years.
Vallee said, "It seems like just yesterday that Brian joined us, and in terms of his contributions, there are just so many. In his four-plus years with Avnet he has been key to building Avnet Electronics Marketing's Asia business and expanding our presence in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) - and he has just led Avnet Electronics Marketing/Global through the worst components correction in history." Vallee continued, "I am pleased that Brian plans to continue his association with Avnet after his official retirement."
Andrew Bryant began his 23-year industry career in 1978 with Hamilton/Avnet Electronics, where he spent more than a decade distinguishing himself in various sales and marketing positions. He joined a competitor for a brief period of time, and returned to Avnet in 1991 as Director of Teleservices at Avnet Computer (now Avnet Enterprise Solutions). He was promoted to President of Avnet Computer in 1996 and was promoted to President of Hall-Mark Computer Products (now Avnet Hall-Mark), a division of Avnet, in 1998. In July 1999 he was promoted to President of Avnet Computer Marketing.
