Erlang gets exclusive Africa-wide distribution rights from Bird Technologies Group

27 March 2002 News

Erlang Communications has been awarded exclusive distribution rights for the whole of Africa including South Africa, Madagascar, Mauritius and the Seychelles from Bird Technologies Group (BTG) of Ohio, USA.

Erlang Communications previously had exclusive rights to Madagascar, Mauritius, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, the Seychelles and Uganda. "This new agreement opens new doors for us in southern Africa as well as the whole sub-Saharan region," says Erlang MD Anthony Walley. "One of our goals is to strengthen the value chain between our suppliers and their end-users. The new arrangement allows us to do just that by providing a much greater level of service and support to BTG customers throughout the region while also providing them a one-stop shop for most of the supporting technologies and services they may need."

Bird Technologies Group consists of Bird Electronic Corporation, Bird Component Products and TX-RX Systems Inc.

BTG designs, manufactures and markets RF components, instruments and systems for 50 Ohm applications in the 50 kHz to 2500 MHz range. Its products include the Thruline wattmeters, Termaline terminations and terminating wattmeters, Tenuline attenuators, Digital Air terminations, Wattcher RF Monitoring Systems, AT-Series and Site Analyser, antenna testers, digital power meters, digital power sensors and broadcast power monitors.

Bird Component Products (BCP) designs and manufactures high-quality, convection and conduction-cooled RF loads and attenuators with power ratings ranging from 0,5 W to 1000 W. BCP also offers couplers, dividers, combiners and other RF components as well as custom-build capability.

TX RX Systems is a leader in the design and manufacture of high-performance, innovative equipment for multichannel, multiuser HF, VHF, and UHF communication systems. TX RX products include multicouplers, signal boosters, duplexers, cavity filters and various RF system products and accessories used to extend communication coverage in above and below-ground structures.

Bird's range of RF power measurement instruments, communication systems and accessories complements Erlang's growing range of solutions from NetTest, LGP, LG Innotek, Sage, Edixia, Subex and Pendulum. This is in addition to Erlang's own locally-developed range of B-MON cellular antenna VSWR monitors and BTS calibrators which are attracting increasing interest from both local and international cellular network operators.
