Black-owned networking and communications logistics solutions provider, Nexgen, has merged with Fibreplus, a distributor of fibre optic and copper cabling and components, to address opportunities in government organisations and leading companies in the private sector.
Known as Nexgen Fibreplus, the company is headed by CEO Shireen Govender. It will provide a broad range of networking and cabling solutions, from design through to implementation, to dealers and resellers throughout South Africa.

"As one of the only black distribution companies in South Africa, our main aim is to work with black specialist companies - such as systems integrators and infrastructure installers - who target the public sector," says Govender.
She says that the merger between Nexgen and Fibreplus has created many areas of optimisation within the new organisation, particularly in skills development and training.
"We have been able to set up a training operation which is tasked with empowering our staff and the specialist technicians of our reseller partners," notes Govender. "There is a severe shortage of skilled staff in South Africa, particularly in our sector of the IT industry, which we will help to redress."
Nexgen Fibreplus has signed distribution agreements with a number of companies including Motorola - whose radio solutions are targeted at the networking and security industries - and R&M, a leading manufacturer of structured cabling solutions based in Switzerland, which is also addressing opportunities in 'last mile' voice applications as a supplier to the telecommunications industry.
Nexgen Fibreplus is expanding its footprint beyond South Africa's borders and is in the process of establishing bases in Tanzania and the Comores as part of a strategy to gain a foothold in the developing regions of Africa. Govender adds that Nexgen Fibreplus, in partnership with Motorola and R&M, is actively looking to establish relationships with suitably qualified resellers and dealers in sub-Saharan Africa.
