Chinese delegation visits South Africa

22 May 2002 News

South African Micro-Electronic Systems (SAMES), a subsidiary of Labat Africa, brought together key players from leading electricity meter manufacturing companies in China, for a week of collaboration and technical discussions. Funded jointly by SAMES and the Department of Trade and Industry, the seminar began on 22 April when 11 delegates arrived at Johannesburg International Airport.

Said Duncan Charity, Director Marketing of SAMES, "the goal of the seminar was to promote further communication and understanding between SAMES and the Chinese manufacturers through collaborative discussions as well as in-house training on SAMES products. Through face-to-face meetings we believe we have enhanced the awareness of each other's requirements, difficulties and points of view and enabled all of us to work side-by-side to the benefit of all companies. In addition a seminar such as this plays an important role in helping SAMES keep abreast of the latest trends in this ever-changing industry."

The Chinese delegation, all from manufacturers who design and manufacturer electronic energy meters, were in South Africa for one week. During this time they visited Eskom Laboratories in Johannesburg and were also given the opportunity to see some of South Africa's wildlife.

SAMES offers comprehensive product development services, that includes the complete design and manufacture of complex digital, analog and mixed signal integrated circuits. This enables customers to choose the most economical implementation of their product. SAMES has developed an extensive portfolio of products in the area of energy measurement, telecom, ID and security and for the development and manufacture of CSICs (Customer Specific Integrated Circuits) and contract silicon foundry.
