Grintek Telecom wins top award from Telkom

3 July 2002 News

At a ceremony held in Sandton last week, Telkom presented its top award, Supplier of the Year, to Grintek Telecom. Grintek Telecom was one of six companies that achieved gold supplier awards and was acknowledged for its consistent delivery of quality, operational efficiency as well as black economic empowerment.

Telkom CEO, Sizwe Nxasana and Jeff Radebe, Minister of Public Enterprises delivered the keynote address and hosted the gala dinner.

Says Erwin Schumann, managing director at Grintek Telecom: "We are honoured and proud of this achievement which demonstrates the close relationship and commitment between ourselves and Telkom. Our ability to provide best-of-breed technology, with integration capabilities, has allowed us to provide Telkom with a competitive edge in the market."

Says Telkom's CEO, Sizwe Nxasana: "The interaction with suppliers is one of the areas in which Telkom has made a quantum leap. The cautious, rather awkward let-us-limit-our-contact-to-written-communication approach is gone forever. Today we see our suppliers as long-term partners, not outsiders. As such, they are a key part of our business and an integral link in our strategy to compete effectively in what has become a rapidly evolving communications marketplace."

"Our approach towards suppliers has also changed in that we no longer want to be prescriptive. Instead, we are looking for suppliers who have the ability to add strategic value to our business. This means we are looking for suppliers who are entrepreneurial, who thrive on finding ways of doing business in less costly, more efficient ways."

"Grintek Telecom has recognised that it is not enough just to be a supplier of product. Value added service, such as local support from specialists within Grintek Telecom, reinforce our commitment to Telkom and its clients," concludes Srini Moodley, executive sales manager for new business development and sales at Grintek Telecom.
