Tuks professor elected to the IFAC council

Professor Ian Craig of the Department of Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering at the University of Pretoria, was elected to the IFAC Council at a meeting held in Barcelona recently. Prof Craig is only the second South African to serve on the IFAC Council in the 45-year history of the Federation.
The International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC), founded in September 1957, is a multinational federation of National Member Organisations (NMOs), each one representing the engineering and scientific societies concerned with automatic control in its own country. The purpose of the Federation is to promote the science and technology of control in the broadest sense in all systems, whether, for example, engineering, physical, biological, social or economic, in both theory and application. IFAC is also concerned with the impact of control technology on society.
Prof Craig obtained his BEng degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Pretoria, the SM degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and his PhD and MBA degrees from the University of the Witwatersrand. He is a former president of the SA Council for Automation and Computation, the IFAC NMO in South Africa.
