Contract to develop OLED-based 'Universal Communication Device'

Universal Display Corporation, a US developer of flat panel display technology, has been awarded a two-year $2 million cooperative agreement by the US Army Research Laboratories (ARL) to develop technology to produce flexible, low-power consumption organic light emitting device (OLED) displays and communication components for use in advanced, next-generation mobile communication devices.

The company intends to develop the 'UCD' (for Universal Communication Device) that features a compact cellphone-like communication device with an extendable (or roll-out) flexible OLED (FOLED) display that offers low-power, full-colour, and full motion video capabilities - to provide both military and commercial users with advanced voice and data communication capabilities.
