Grintek Telecoms embraces ISO 9001:2000

Grintek Telecom's quality management system has recently been certified by DEKRA Certification Services as ISO 9001:2000 compliant. The company attained the ISO 9002 certification in 1998 and has continued to do so until 2001. In April 2002, it implemented the new ISO 9001:2000 standard and has been successfully accredited.
Says Phumlani Moholi, Grintek Telecom's managing director, "Grintek Telecom has a well-established and documented quality management system in place, which is imperative to ensure effective planning, operation and control of processes. It is often said that a company is defined by its processes and if the processes are not properly engineered and mapped, the foundation of the business is resting on shaky ground."
"The process of accreditation and refining our quality management system is ongoing. Businesses are dynamic by nature, having to keep up with changes in the environment, both technologically and strategically. Once a company is accredited with an ISO standard, it is not a case of resting on one's laurels - the process is one of ongoing refinement," he said.
There is much importance placed on supplier and contractor control and Grintek Telecom says it has established documentation to control and evaluate total quality to its customers. Suppliers and subcontractors are measured and monitored through a quality assessment process and if there are any deviations to the process, a supplier corrective action (SCA) is submitted and recorded. The supplier is evaluated on its response and how the issue is handled.
External surveys which are completed in conjunction with sales and service managers, are conducted to ensure that high levels of customer care, focus and communication are maintained. This information is collated to establish a graphical representation of how Grintek Telecom and its suppliers are perceived and measured.
