Gerhard Meese, President of Universal Instruments Corp, recently joined the IPC - Association Connecting Electronics Industries Board of Directors. His appointment occurred in conjunction with the Surface Mount Equipment Manufacturers' Association (SMEMA) merger with the IPC. In this new role, Meese will serve as liaison between the IPC Board and the SMEMA Council Steering Committee. In a recent interview, SMT Magazine gauged Meese's unique perspective on the surface mount industry.
Murata offers discriminators that are characterised to enable nonadjustment, single chip IC operation. Leaded and SMD configurations offer FM families characterised for most popular ICs.
There is continuous pressure for audio and mobile telecommunications appliances to get smaller and give bigger performance. This has caused manufacturers to choose single chip designs, in spite of the need for stable demodulation characteristics, says Murata, and thus the combination of IC and ceramic discriminator resolves the problems.
Many are familiar with the characterisation of resonators to specific ICs but the practice of matching discriminators is not so familiar, in spite of the fact that a discriminator is a form of resonator.
Murata offers discriminators for cordless telephones, cellular phones, communications equipment, pagers, televisions, video recorders and so on. There are parts matched to ICs from Hitachi, Motorola, Philips, RCA, Sanyo, Signetics, Sony, Toko and Toshiba. Others will be characterised as demand requires.
