Towards the end of 2003, our electronic manufacturing industry in South Africa appeared to show signs of recovery. This trend has carried over into the 1st quarter of 2004 and it is our opinion that we could experience a growth in the industry similar to that of previous years.
However, factory lead-times are increasing and careful planning is essential to ensure availability of components to the market.
With demand now meeting supply we anticipate price increases at the factory door, which should result in higher local prices. With regard to the rand's value versus other major currencies, we anticipate levels to remain much as they are presently.
