Contrary to what we see and read in the media, we believe that the sub-continent of Africa is slowly stabilising and that economics and common sense are busy taking over where political aspirations and in-fighting have been destroying large parts of the infrastructure.
In a continent hungry for technology, opportunities are there for those who take the time to explore new avenues to market their products and services. This is seen as more and more of our clients are using our industrial PC components in their products that are exported into Africa.
The automation of processes was restricted to big industry players for many years due to the costs involved. This is no longer true. Cost-effective PC-based products, such as those produced by Advantech, and new SCADA packages, now make it affordable for the smaller operator to automate his plant. Some examples are foundries, injection-moulding, bottling, and the food industry. Even farmers are now able to automate their fertigation, stock feeding and egg producing facilities, which leaves plenty of opportunity for systems-engineering companies to market their products.
