New Fluke distributor launched to the trade

20 April 2005 News

Local electrical and industrial dealers have been introduced to Fluke's new authorised distributor in southern Africa, Comtest, at a function at the company's head office in Midrand.

The event was attended by dealers throughout Gauteng and neighbouring provinces who gathered to renew their acquaintance with industry stalwarts, including Comtest MD, Peter Verwer, sales director, Richard Lewis, sales manager, Hilton Preston, product manager, Brendan Campbell and Repair and Metrology Services' (RMS), Van Zyl Koegelenberg and Les Wesson.

Comtest is the only officially-authorised Fluke Partner in southern Africa following its appointment by Fluke with effect from 3 January 2005. Fluke's Ellis Delglyn, regional manager, Export Region Europe, responsible for South Africa, and John Wilson, an independent consultant for Fluke, were also at the launch.

Delglyn says that the newly-formed Comtest reflects an astounding gathering of partners with a vast range of specialist knowledge and expertise. He adds, "It is a credit to the Comtest team that they signed an agreement with Fluke in the beginning of January and they managed to get up and running in such a short space of time. By the end of January, they had already visited Fluke's headquarters in The Netherlands to familiarise themselves with the company processes that will enable them to move forward and deliver Fluke faster in South Africa."

Delglyn is extremely complimentary about the people who are Comtest: "Comtest has put a talented and quality team together that is hugely customer-driven. They understand how to provide quality customer service and, together with RMS, the best possible support. In short, Comtest is able to offer the market a quality package on behalf of Fluke and its other brands."

He adds, "Peter Verwer is a strong advocate of the same goals as Fluke, and has put together a team of hand-selected individuals who understand the marketplace and will definitely make a difference in the South African market."

Delglyn says that he is confident that Comtest will take Fluke sales to new heights and quickly become a leading force in the test and measurement market in South Africa.

Kevin Preston, Protea Industrial Equipment's divisional manager, says the experience has been very positive thus far, "This distributorship gives us the opportunity to expand Protea Electronics' product offering with a range that is highly complementary to ours. I have known all of the individuals who make up the Comtest team for many years and I look forward to an ongoing partnership on hand tools and electrical tools."

Tycom director, Frank Barnes, concurs, saying, "I go back a long way with Fluke, in fact I was a systems engineer with Fluke SA, so I have a very long relationship with the company. I am particularly pleased that Comtest will only distribute Fluke products through dealers and will not be selling directly to the public. I think that that is good for the distributor, good for the product and, ultimately, good for business!

Tom Corbett from Rustenburg-based Control Systems is very excited about the new distributorship agreement. He says he is hoping for improved delivery times and exposure to a wider range of Fluke offerings than previously. Corbett says, "This is the first time that I have seen Fluke's complete product range and I did not realise that Fluke had access to some of these products. I also like the hands-on approach advocated by Comtest."
