Uniross South Africa is expanding once again, and has just recently developed a new 2000 m² manufacturing facility in Midrand, which comprises: temperature-controlled warehousing facilities, new offices for head office staff and a state-of-the-art battery assembly and testing facility.
According to the company, the relocation is essential for the Uniross group, as Uniross South Africa is positioned as one of the global production facilities for the Uniross group internationally. More importantly, however, the expansion brings technical resources to South Africa that were previously only available in Europe, the USA and Asia, this adding huge value to South Africa and the African continent.

Says Kevin Rogers, general manager of the South African operation: "Uniross is now recognised as the leading rechargeable battery company in Europe, Africa, and Australia, and is considered to be a world leader in the industry. It is therefore important that we invest in the South African operation in order to bring technology and resources to the African continent and are proud to be the first battery assembly company to provide these world class facilities to customers in South Africa."
The new facility provides for high speed digital video links with the company’s R&D centre in Paris, the fuel cell test centre, the electrochemistry department, and is also directly linked to its production and procurement centre in Zongshan, China
The new production facility comprises of automated conveyer lines for mass battery pack assembly, job lines for small production runs, a test laboratory with full application simulation, a technical R&D centre, a quality control centre, as well as a showroom, offices and warehousing facilities. On top of this, the new facility also provides for high speed digital video links with the R&D centre in Paris, the fuel cell test centre, the electrochemistry department and it also provides direct links to the production and procurement centre in Zongshan, China.

"The benefit to R&D, electronic assembly and other OEM companies in South Africa will be fantastic, with the new facility providing local customers with full turnkey battery design and assembly capabilities," adds Rogers.
Uniross has always been committed to the African market and is proud of the new development and the potential that this expansion will bring to the local battery market. "We extend an open invitation to each one of our customers to come and visit our exciting new premises, and see for yourself the innovation and technology that Uniross brings to the South African battery market," he says.
