Brazil’s rapidly growing electrical and electronics industry has set its sights on South Africa.
At present, Brazil exports its products to a wide spectrum of countries in North America, Europe and Asia where, according to International Trade Projects, they have found ready acceptance because of their quality, reliability, innovation and competitive pricing.
Eight leading Brazilian manufacturers were in Johannesburg on 30 August in an attempt to sign up local distributors for their products which range from analog and SHDSL modems, routers and VoIP-IAD gateways; to (amongst others) electrical switchgear; power transformers; electronic voltage stabilisers and UPSs; solenoid valves, connectors and accessories; long range microwave video links; and distribution panels.
They were part of a formal trade mission that also includes over 30 manufacturers of medical, dental, hospital and laboratory equipment, plastics and packaging, and machinery.
The mission was organised by the Brazilian government's Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (APEX-Brasil) and involved one-on-one meetings between representatives of Brazil companies and potential South African business partners, agents and distributors.
APEX-Brasil president, Juan Quirós says part of the mission's goal is to introduce South African business people to the broad range of products available from Brazil and to promote business partnerships between the two countries.
At present, almost 80% of Brazil's more than $1,37 bn exports to South Africa consists of commodities such as coffee, textiles, pasta, wine, music, jewellery and shoes, and some animal products.
