New SAIEE president appointed

Ian McKechnie has been appointed president of the South African Institute of Electrical Engineers (SAIEE). His term of office will run from March 2007 to March 2008.

Ian McKechnie is a consulting engineer and project manager. He is the MD of specialist consulting engineers INNOPRO, and of project consulting, management and engineering company Global Africa Projects. He is also an honorary research associate at the University of the Witwatersrand, in the School of Electrical and Information Engineering.

He is a graduate of the University of Cape Town (UCT) with a BSc Eng (Electrical & Electronic) degree and is a registered Professional Engineer (PrEng) and Professional Construction Project Manager (PrCPM).

A member of the SAIEE since 1985, his formal involvement in SAIEE activities began in 1992 when he became the inaugural chairman of the SAIEE's newly formed Young Members Committee and later chairman of the Measurement, Computation and Control Section.
