Meissner recently hosted a successful technical week including a product exhibition at the company’s factory in Wadeville. Sales director Graham Beyleveld stated that the response was overwhelming, showing that there is a definite need in the industry for these types of in-depth technical training sessions. Due to demand, Meissner is already planning the next such event.
Delegates attending the technical week were able to witness a wide range of products, all connected and operational, simulating typical UPS and generator working environments incorporating hands-on practical demonstrations. The week was split into morning and afternoon training modules with hands-on demonstrations taking place before and after each session. The topics that were presented included: the correct specification of a UPS for the application; batteries including different options, as well as advanced battery management (ABM) and extended backup time; interfacing UPSs with generators; UPS software, remote monitoring and UPS management; and contracts and cost-effective service solutions.
There were two sessions, each presented twice a day, with the one focusing on engineers and project managers and the other focusing on IT and data handling. The topics aimed at engineers and project managers included: transformer vs. transformerless technology; parallel redundancy/capacity ie, hot sync and system backup time; extended backup times/limitations; different battery types; points of installation including cable specs/cable lengths, accessibility (aircon), access control, security and fire protection; communications including software interfacing and GSM; and maintenance and maintenance contracts.
Topics focusing on IT and data handling included the correct UPS for the correct application; electronic power distribution units; inverter vs. UPS; blade UPSs and rack mount UPSs; long autonomy (battery or genset); software interfacing including RAPs, local and wide area network monitoring, interfacing to BMS/fileserver and X slots etc.
