With just days to go to the inaugural launch of National Electronics Week in South Africa, the list of activities being offered over and above the exhibition proper continues to grow.
SMART Group SA recently revealed an exclusive seminar programme to accompany the show being held over 9 and 10 March. As one of South Africa’s leading technical trade associations representing the region’s electronics manufacturing industry, the organisation’s seminar lineup is being led by some of the association’s most respected members from SMART UK and SMART SA, including Richard Boyle, Igmar Grewar, Keith Bryant and Sue Knight. As well as featuring practical guides to critical manufacturing disciplines such as printing, wave soldering, reflow, rework and repair, the programme will also show visitors how to improve yield with AOI and X-ray technologies, and how to improve paste with the recently announced SMART standard. This highly technical seminar schedule is expected to be very popular and visitors are encouraged to register their interest early to avoid disappointment.
Running on both days of the show, the SMART Group seminars will dedicate 45 minutes to each topic, while each seminar will end with a round of questions for the speaker. Focused on helping attendees get more out of their production processes, the seminars form part of the organisation’s commitment to stimulating innovation through education. Founded in 2007, SMART Group SA aims to promote the advancement of the South African electronics industry through the education, training and notification of its members in surface mount and related assembly technologies, and by the promotion of a community of electronics industry professionals.
In addition to SMART Group’s activities, Microsoft is providing an event for companies and developers intending to use Windows Embedded technologies for their products and projects. The company is hosting a free, one-day course exploring the five major Windows Embedded technologies as part of its ‘Windows Embedded Explore” programme.
The exclusive Microsoft course gives those attending relevant product and technical information in addition to practical experience through hands-on labs and exercises. The informal nature of the course also provides an opportunity to discuss specific projects and products with technology experts and members of the Windows Embedded team. The course is intended for companies that have little or no previous experience with Windows Embedded products, but which have an embedded or realtime product or appliance that they are developing.
“By including all the technologies in one day, this course is the most effective way to assess the technologies available,” says trainer Jason Tolley of ROK Technology. “Those that attend the course leave with relevant evaluation toolkits, course manual, an understanding of each of the technologies and most importantly a list of what the next steps are for their particular project or product.”
