DDZ Technologies company profile

12 October 2011 Manufacturing / Production Technology, Hardware & Services News

DDZ Technologies is a turnkey electronics manufacturer offering a host of services including product development and project management, procurement, final product assembly and cable harness assembly, as well as PCB assembly and population.

The company was started in 2004 as a solo, afterhours project by owner Dirk du Preez, who saw a market for contract assembly and manufacturing, with an emphasis on PCB assembly work. Du Preez worked on his own, making use of subcontractors as well as part-time employees for the first two years, then employed one fulltime technician and then another last year. After procuring a clientele composed of previous employers and respondents to his e-mail marketing campaign, du Preez made the company a full-time endeavour in 2005 and quickly realised that he needed to offer something unique in order to thrive in what is a highly competitive market.

In the early days, the company concentrated on low volumes and prototypes to establish itself in the industry. Later on, the assembly of complete products became its main focus, where everything from PCBs, cable looms and harnesses would get built up as separate parts and then integrated into an enclosure customised for the specific product.

All of these aspects are handled in-house unless otherwise specified, such as when the machining of complex enclosures or the assembly of complex and large quantities of PCBs will get outsourced, with the customer’s consent. DDZ has built up a vast amount of experience and equipment to do any form of cable loom or harness assembly, including MIL-STD cables.

The company’s success is evidenced by the fact that, after starting life in a single room of a house, and later expanding to two and then three rooms, an extension needed to be built to accommodate DDZ in 2008. What is more, the company is now relocating to an industrial factory in Centurion to accommodate further expansion in both staff and work space.

The company currently has three fulltime employees responsible for assembly work. Du Preez is a proponent of using reliable employees as effectively as possible, rather than having too many cooks spoil the broth. In this way, every employee is expected to take responsibility for the quality of their work and fast turnaround times.

Du Preez prides himself on the personal attention that DDZ gives to each customer and trusts that this will foster further success and growth for the company in the future.
