BeagleBoard opens design competition

28 November 2012 News

BeagleBoard.org is offering prizes in its worldwide BeagleBone Cape Plug-in Board Design Contest. The top three winning designs will receive $1000 in prize money, will have their design prototyped and manufactured through CircuitCo Electronics, and will be able to choose from one of three free development tools. In addition to these grand prizes, a small prize will also be awarded on a weekly basis.

For the uninitiated, BeagleBone is an embedded Linux-based development system, running on Texas Instruments’ Sitara AM335x ARM Cortex-A8 processor, that makes use of plug-in boards, called capes, to add capabilities to the base system; examples include capes for LCD touch screens, weather measurement, motor control, data transmission, battery power and many more.

Entries need to be submitted by the end of December 2012 and judging will take place in early January 2013, with winners to be announced on 14 January. Submissions must include a schematic layout and bill of materials not exceeding $60, which must be uploaded for judging.
