South African open innovation platform goes live
14 May 2014
News
The Innovation Hub has launched a new, open platform to connect developers with those in industry and government seeking technology solutions.
What started in 2013 as the Open Innovation Solution Exchange pilot project has evolved into OpenIX, with the goal of accelerating the innovation and R&D process for African researchers and entrepreneurs, and driving the commercialisation of research and novel technologies.
The project is run by a team based at The Innovation Hub that includes open innovation and PhD sector specialists, with strong backgrounds in innovation, research and management consulting in South Africa, Africa and globally. The website www.openix.theinnovationhub.com posts a continuously updated list of challenges, i.e. solution seekers looking for developers, and technology offers, which are late stage R&D or prototypes posted by researchers and entrepreneurs looking for co-development partners, licensing and commercial opportunities.
The platform applies a proprietary, rigorous and robust C4 methodology to define an organisation’s need or challenge which is then posted on the platform and activated through a focused campaign that funnels more than 50 000 potential contacts down to a handful of high-potential solutions. A similar approach is used to assist innovators in showcasing their technology offers.
