ZYTEQ Technologies: the new contract manufacturer on the block

4 June 2014 News Manufacturing / Production Technology, Hardware & Services

ZYTEQ Technologies was raised from the ashes of what was the United Technologies Ziton factory in Cape Town by former management and staff with the assistance of funding by the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC).

The team boasts a wealth of knowledge and experience gained through the manufacture of life safety products for international markets and electronic assemblies for local clients.

Commenting on his vision for the company’s future, managing director Mark Mundell stated “We believe in the future of electronic manufacturing in South Africa. We are confident that we can use our international experience to the benefit of local customers by offering world class service, superior quality and competitive pricing. ZYTEQ aims to be a premier contract manufacturing company in South Africa.”

Towards achieving this goal, the company has established an 895 m2 manufacturing facility in Wetton, Cape Town, equipped with a brand new Juki SMT line supplied by Alan McKinnon & Associates, and Yestech automated optical inspection supplied by Test & Rework Solutions. It also secured a second hand Yamaha YV100T line, giving a combined capacity of 52 000 components per hour (IPC 9850).

In addition, the facility is equipped with PCB washing, automated conformal coating and bespoke test solutions. The company also offers complete supply chain management and end-to-end industrialisation services for new product introduction, which adds up to a complete contract manufacturing solution for its clients.

Planning on the establishment of ZYTEQ began almost two years ago when the announcement by United Technologies of the relocation of the highly successful Ziton manufacturing facility created an opportunity to secure key skills, equipment and retain some of the jobs that would otherwise have been lost.

The Ziton outfit has a proud history of innovative product design and manufacture of fire products for the local and export markets going back to 1969. The facility has won a number of international awards for quality, design, operational efficiency and service. With the support of the Department of Trade and Industry and the IDC, ZYTEQ was established with local ownership including a staff trust allowing all employees to own a stake in the business.

To celebrate its inception and properly introduce itself to the South African market, ZYTEQ is extending a special offer to new customers which includes a free, once-off introductory sample build of up to five PCB pallets. Further to this, for a limited period it will offer zero setup costs for any new product submitted for production, within the bounds of certain terms and conditions.
