South African company EM Software & Systems (EMSS) last month chose the occasion of its twentieth anniversary to announce its sale to Altair, a specialist in product design, advanced engineering software, on-demand computing technologies and enterprise analytics solutions headquartered in the USA.
The coveted target of the acquisition was EMSS’s highly respected FEKO electromagnetic simulation software, which will become part of Altair’s HyperWorks suite in order to bolster its simulation offering in the aerospace, automotive and shipbuilding industries in particular. While a Rands and cents value has not been publicly disclosed, the purchase covers 100% of EMSS and its international distributor offices in the USA, Germany and China.
Typical applications of FEKO include antenna design, antenna placement, electromagnetic compatibility analysis, bioelectromagnetics, radio frequency components, three-dimensional electromagnetic circuits, design and analysis of radomes, and radar cross-section analysis. It will support Atair’s existing software solver solutions in addressing coupled electromagnetic-thermal and electromagnetic-mechanical problems, among others.
