14 March 2001 News

MB Silicon Systems is a privately-owned electronics component distribution company and manufacturer representative, covering the whole of South Africa. Established in January 1997 the company has expanded rapidly to capture a sizeable portion of the South African electronic components market.

Being a totally independent company, MBSS customers include all major manufacturers and users of components in the country.

As a company that primarily serves the professional equipment manufacturers supplying state-of-the-art components, particularly semiconductors, MB Silicon Systems (MBSS) can fulfill practically any customer requirement as far as professional electronic components are concerned. This is attributed to the custom-made software with Parametric Search Capabilities. The parametric search enables MBSS sales engineers to easily find components that are available from multiple sources and to define the alternative parts if required.

MB Silicon Systems is an ISO 9002 certified company. This certification further enhances the company's pledge and commitment to the quality of service that it provides to its customers.

During the year 2000 the company has managed to consolidate and further expand the business. In August 2000, the company took possession of new premises in the prestigious and serene suburb of Houghton. The new premises are large enough to cater for future expansion and is equipped, amongst others, with a large presentation facility, ideal for customer training and technical seminars. The continuous investment in the software has paid off handsomely - MB Silicon Systems is today one of the few South African companies capable of implementing an e-commerce strategy, covering complete business-to-business transactions. Further to this, and as another example of its commitment to the innovative service philosophy, the response to customer enquiries is speeded up by the implementation of Electronics Data Interchange (EDI) which enables the realtime interrogation of the stock-holding of certain major suppliers and principals. During the year 2000 MB Silicon Systems added two new lines on its existing line-card and in the process, sales have grown significantly.

Currently MB Silicon Systems has distribution agreements with Abracon, a Californian manufacturer of magnetic and crystal/oscillator components; Central Semiconductor, a New York-based manufacturer of discrete semiconductors; California Micro Devices, a Milpitas-based manufacturer of telecom ICs and passive networks; Clear Logic, a San José-based manufacturer of ASIC ICs; Chipcon, a Norwegian manufacturer of RF transceiver ICs; Enhanced Memory Systems, a Colorado Springs-based manufacturer of high-speed, high-density memories; GHz Technology, a San José-based manufacturer of RF transistors; Micrel, a San José-based manufacturer of high performance analog power ICs; Ramtron, a Colorado Springs-based manufacturer of FRAM products; Synergy Semiconductor, a Santa Clara-based manufacturer of high performance digital and mixed-signal ICs; E-tec, a Swiss manufacturer of interconnect products; Jennings Technologies, a San José-based manufacturer of high voltage vacuum components; and Maxwell Technologies, a San Diego-based manufacturer of hi-tech energy products.

MB Silicon Systems is a young company with a clearly defined path ahead. MBSS aims to provide value to its principals and suppliers and to create a happy and stimulating work environment for its staff. The company's continued commitment to supply value to its customers, by supplying the highest quality components at competitive pricing, delivered on time and supported by the reliable technical backup and service, remains unchallenged.
