Portable spectrum analyser

15 March 2000 Test & Measurement

The PSA-33A portable spectrum analyser is AVCOM's answer to one's downlink installation, service and maintenance problems, claims the company. Frequency coverage is from 1 to over 2100 MHz in two bands. Frequency readout is shown in MHz on a four-digit LCD front panel display. The company says this allows one to quickly and precisely identify and resolve terrestrial interference problems by displaying offending signals and their frequencies.

DBS signals such as Dish Network, Primestar and DirecTV can be checked with AVCOM's PSA-33A portable spectrum analyser. Normal DBS alignments, such as roof, wall or backyard, can be quickly accomplished because the DBS receiver and TV monitor do not have to be at the DBS antenna. In more creative DBS dish installations (inside buildings, looking through sparse foliage, using smaller antennas than the 18" offset supplied or concealed installations) where the obtained signal is not optimum the installer can use the AVCOM PSA-33A spectrum analyser to quickly locate and measure the signal even though it is below the receiver's signal strength requirement. Steps can be taken to improve the signal by larger antenna or relocation.

Key features are: frequency coverage from 1 to 2100 MHz in two bands; accurate four-digit LCD frequency readout; measures wideband signals commonly used in the satellite communications and CATV industries; portable (7,7 kg); battery or line operated; Ku and L band compatible; built-in DC block and power for LNBs and BDCs; 220-240 V models available; internal battery charger; selectable vertical sensitivity of either 2 dB or 10 dB/div.
