LabVIEW integrates with Code Composer Studio to shorten DSP design cycle

23 April 2003 Design Automation Infrastructure

National Instruments' LabVIEW DSP Test Integration Toolkit enables engineers to integrate NI LabVIEW graphical development environment with Texas Instruments' Code Composer Studio development tools, greatly reducing testing and development time of TI's digital signal processing (DSP) systems.

Because testing early in the design process of DSP systems was traditionally complex and time consuming, design engineers often delayed validation until after system prototypes were built. With this toolset, they can use LabVIEW to easily integrate measurements throughout the design process. This helps them identify design flaws prior to prototype construction, reducing time to market and improving quality of products that use DSP chips.

The LabVIEW DSP Test Integration Toolkit gives engineers an intuitive and familiar graphical tool to easily build DSP test and verification systems. As an eXpressDSP-compliant plug-in, this toolkit automates routine functions in Code Composer Studio, such as 'build' and 'run', and communicates test data directly to and from the DSP chip's memory. LabVIEW allows engineers to read and write data internal to the DSP chips and view and control test data in realtime at speeds of up to 2 MBps using TI RTDX data link.

Because LabVIEW integrates with a wide variety of measurement I/O, engineers can generate real-world stimuli and take real-world measurements to compare with theoretical data. They then can correlate operating parameters of DSP algorithms with the actual effects seen on the input and output to the DSP and adjust system parameters dynamically. This speeds testing and verification phases of code development.

The LabVIEW DSP Test Integration Toolkit works with the TMS320C6000, TMS320C5000, TMS320C2800, and OMAP platforms. Users must use LabVIEW 6.1 and Code Composer Studio 2.1 or higher with the toolkit.
