Linux is taking the world by storm. And now, according to Ampro Computers, a leading provider of modular embedded computing solutions for OEM applications, it is fast becoming the platform of choice for embedded development, not only because of the operating system's functionality and ease of use, but also because it is a cost-effective alternative to using DOS in embedded applications. Linux allows products to come to market more competitively priced.
Ampro says it has made a commitment to offer OEMs the broadest base of commercial Linux-ready hardware available in the industry. The company announced recently the availability of a certified version of the TimeSys Embedded Linux OS on a wide range of Ampro boards, including the new 486-based CoreModule 400 PC/104-compatible SBC, Little Board P5v EBX-compatible SBC and EnCore 400, 500, and 700 embedded CPU modules.
Ampro believes that Linux brings a command-line based, DOS-like alternative to developers who are concerned about ongoing support and long-term availability of DOS going forward. To make this transition as painless as possible, TimeSys' certification and Ampro's commitment to simplify development assures compatibility with Ampro hardware. Ampro Computers says that OEMs now have the out-of-the-box support for a compatible, consistent, small-footprint Linux across a broad range of single board computers.
