Display socket line expanded

7 May 2003 Interconnection

Aries Electronics has expanded its already extensive line of Vertisockets with a new horizontal mounting version on 10,16 mm centres. Aries added the new socket to meet the varied mounting position design requirements for DIP packaging of LEDs, incandescent lamps, DIP switches and test points.

The 10,16 mm centre Series 800 Vertisocket has 22 pins and accepts standard LEDs and incandescent displays, as well as 21,70 and 15,24 mm large displays. Aries also offers horizontal Vertisockets on 5,08, 7,62, and 15,24 mm centres, from 6 through 48 pins, a variety of vertical mount versions, and custom sizes and configurations as well.

Standard body material of the new Vertisockets is UL 94-HB glass-filled nylon, with a high temperature body material UL 94V-0 4/6 nylon.

Pin body material is of brass alloy 360 half-hard per UNS C36000 ASTM-B16-85, with pin body plating of 5,07 µm min. 93/37 tin and lead per MIL-P-81728 over 2,54 µm min. nickel per QQ-N-290.

The Series 800 Vertisockets have four-fingered collet contacts manufactured of beryllium copper alloy per UNS C17200 ASTM-B194-92 with 0,76 µm min. gold plating per MIL-G-45204, over 1,27 µm min. nickel per QQ-N-290. Current rating of the contacts is 3 A and they accept leads of 0,38-0,64 mm in diameter, and 2,79-3,81 mm in length.

The contacts have an insertion force of 180 grams/pin, a withdrawal force of 90 grams/pin and normal force of 140 grams/pin, based on tests using a 0,46 mm diameter test lead. Suggested PCB hole size is 0,89 mm ±0,05 mm in diameter. Operating temperature for the new series of Vertisockets is 105°C.
