Power Electronics / Power Management
The IXYS product family of surface mount devices (SMD) has been expanded with Schottky rectifiers in the SMA, SMB & SMC industrial standard cases. These housings allow engineers to design small and compact boards with high power densities. The packages are ideal for improving the efficiency of power applications, whilst also reducing the size and cost of one's system. These types of Schottky diodes are used in low voltage supplies, with various functions such as output rectification and protection circuits. The products offered in each voltage range are optimised to provide the best possible performance in forward voltage.
Schottky diodes that deliver the required performance in forward voltage and dynamic response are the result of optimising the characteristics of these devices for a wide spectrum of applications. Applications such as telecom systems, computers and consumer products greatly benefit from the efficiency improvements and the cost and size savings provided by surface mount Schottky diodes, particularly in the case of portable equipment.
Advantages are: small and compact board design; designed to each voltage class; very low forward voltage drop; very small reverse current; avalanche rated; high switching frequencies.
Applications are found in switch mode power supplies (SMPS); reverse battery protection; OR-ing; free wheeling; converters; and clamps.
