Voltage detector IC helps prevent battery leakage

Epson has developed the S1F77600, a detector IC intended to prevent dry-cell fluid leakage. The prevention of dry-cell fluid leakage in battery-driven products is an important issue.

Standard voltage-detection power supply ICs are an imperfect solution as their output is not stable at very low voltages. Epson says that the low-current S1F77600 is a voltage detector that guarantees stable output even when the supply voltage is close to the GND level.

The S1F77600 is best suited to portable products using two cells in series. When the voltage drops below the detection level, an open drain output is generated. The output signal is used to shut down the system, which prevents any fluid leakage.

The S1F77600 has a built-in reference voltage circuit, comparator, voltage detection resistor, hysteresis circuit, output-guarantee circuit (Hi-Z output), and comes packaged in 3 pin SOT89.
