Temperature sensing has in the past predominantly been the domain of PTC thermistors. Infineon Technologies says that its KT-Series silicon temperature sensor is a cost-competitive alternative.
The KT-Series sensors demonstrates excellent long-term stability, has a linear characteristic, has a resistance tolerance at 25°C of 1% or ±3% and is available as a leaded or as an SMD component, according to the company. Due to its small size it is space-saving and also has a fast response time.
The TO-92 Mini is a package specially designed for the KT-Series. Its compact size results in significantly lower thermal mass which gives an improved response time. As a leaded component it lends itself for further fabrication into temperature sensor probes of reduced diameter, so sensor housings can be made physically smaller. This improves further the thermal response time.
