Oki Semiconductor, a leading technology partner for the embedded market, together with Unique Memec and Memec Design have created a low-cost evaluation board for Oki's ML674000, which is an ARM core-based 32-bit microcontroller for general purpose applications. This partnership emphasises Oki's strategic direction to offer inexpensive development tools for its growing line of ARM-based microcontrollers.
The ML674000 is part of Oki's extensive and growing family of microcontrollers designed to provide developers with a low cost of entry into 32-bit ARM technology. As part of this effort, Oki and its partners are providing customers with an array of affordable development tools to improve time to market and reduce development costs. Oki, Unique Memec and Memec Design will create evaluation boards for other Oki microcontrollers in the coming months to assist customers in testing Oki's ARM core-based solutions.
"As a result of our partnership with Unique Memec, we have expanded our offerings of very low cost development boards with a seamless interface with ARM's RealView development system," said Soichiro Yamamuro, Oki managing director Europe. "By teaming with Unique Memec, Oki is able to offer outstanding design-in support for Oki's ML674000 customers."
Commenting on the new agreement, Cliff Keller, Unique Memec Europe CEO, said, "Unique Memec's partnership with Oki and ARM enables us to bundle the ARM RealView tools with boards developed through the collaboration between Unique Memec and Memec Design's technical resources. The inexpensive evaluation board for Oki's ML674000 combines with the new ARM RealView developer kit to enable Oki to address the needs of its customers in a cost-sensitive MCU market. We look forward to working with Oki to provide a wider range of low-cost ARM core-based products and evaluation tools to the market."
The RealView developer kit for Oki's ML674000 is based on the ARM RealView development solution components, and is specifically targeted to Oki's advanced microcontroller product requirements. The RealView developer kit for Oki comprises ARM7 family-based compilation tools, a powerful GUI-based debugger, and the ARM RealView ICE Micro Edition product, providing JTAG run control through a standard 8 MHz JTAG TAP at data rates of 100 kBps.
"Unique Memec and Oki are taking the quality of customer support for ARM powered MCUs to a new level with this new development solution for the Oki ML674K family," said Brian McAllister, worldwide business development manager for development systems, ARM. "The ARM RealView developer kit for Oki, when connected to the Unique Memec evaluation board, offers designers a cost effective, highly targeted performance and reduced time-to-market with the confidence of the ARM RealView development tool solution."
The evaluation board for Oki's ML674000 advantage microcontroller includes all cables, software CD, and documentation.
