Solid-state LCD backlight has 180° emission angle

A new solid-state backlight for illuminating liquid crystal displays - or any display that requires uniform light over an area of 72 x 30 mm - has been released by Lumex. The SSB-COB6929SGW7900 backlight uses 50 LEDs to provide light over a wide emission angle of 180°. Compared to conventional fluorescent or incandescent backlights, Lumex says the unit provides a much longer operational life, greater immunity to shock and vibration, and it requires less physical space.
With a combination of state-of-the-art LED chips and innovative light-management packaging, this backlight emits light from not only its primary face, but also from its sides. The result is an exceptionally wide angle of light emission.
The 180° backlight is 6,5 mm thick, and is powered by 24 V d.c. at 65 mA (power consumption 1,56 W). Any color of backlight can be generated through the selection of LED chips to match a customer's requirements.
