Tiny boost converter reduces circuit footprint

Linear Technology's LT3460, a high efficiency, 1,3 MHz, constant frequency step-up switching regulator in an SC-70 or ThinSOT package, has an internal 300 mA switch that can deliver output voltages as high as 36 V from input voltages of 2,5 to 16 V. The 1,3 MHz switching frequency allows the use of tiny, low cost capacitors and inductors. Constant frequency topology also results in low, predictable output noise that can be easily filtered. The wide input voltage range makes it suitable for a wide array of applications, from Li-Ion powered handhelds to industrial instrumentation. Small package size, high level of integration, and the use of small surface mount components yield a solution size of less than 40 mm2.
