Design kits target high performance power IC applications

30 July 2003 Design Automation

Power Integrations has introduced two new design accelerator kits to help power supply engineers easily create production-worthy designs using its TOPSwitch-GX family of integrated AC-DC switcher ICs.

DAK-33 is a highly efficient 45 W (12 V, 3,75 A) design created specifically for LCD monitor power supply applications. The design features 90 to 265 V a.c. input operation and over 79% full-load efficiency. It additionally meets <300 mW no-load power consumption and <1 W standby.

DAK-34 is the company's general-purpose TOPSwitch-GX DAK, replacing DAK-11. The universal input, 12 V at 30 W output flyback design demonstrates the many advanced features of PI's premier high-voltage IC family, including under-voltage lockout, overvoltage and hysteretic thermal shutdown, auto-restart, soft-start, adjustable current limit, and the EcoSmart energy efficiency technology-all using only 21 primary-side components.

The DAK-33 and DAK-34 ease design-in efforts with a robust set of tools. Key features: built and tested prototypes pass EMI with margin - a complete engineering report gives full design details and test results; PI Expert design software eases device selection and provides transformer details; a data sheet and two application notes provide full product specs and technical design information; IC samples and a spare PCB make it easy to design with other devices in the family.
