Visionics has released the Edwin XP Version 1.20 EDA package. This EDWin (electronic design for windows) release features: schematic capture, advanced EdSpice and mixed-signal circuit simulation, PCB layout editor with automatic component placement and routing, board level signal integrity, EMA, thermal analysers, and sophisticated fabrication documentation generators. A special inclusion with the release is a 3-D PCB visualisation and VHDL/PLD design module that allows user-generation of custom digital simulation models.
EDWin XP 1.20 suite comprises of a schematic editor, simulators (mixed mode simulator and SPICE based simulator, EDSpice), a PCB layout editor, fabrication manager (to generate manufacturing output files for Photoplotter, NC Drill etc,) a thermal analyser (checks for hotspots on the board), an electromagnetic analyser (with signal integrity and field analyser that checks for electromagnetic effects on the board), and over 25 000 library components with a library editor for component creation.
Special features
With this version comes an innovative concept in its 3-dimensional view of electronic circuits in design stage itself. A real life view of the designed board is possible from different angles and directions. 3D is implemented in the layout editor as 3D board viewer and 3D trace viewer while in library editor it is implemented as 3D package editor and board cabinet editor.
A VHDL Editor helps describe the behaviour of digital systems with the help of VHDL (verilog hardware description language). The main features are: compiles the source file and generates wirelist (.wrs) output file; can import a wirelist file directly into EDWin XP; generates simulatable models using mixed mode and EDSpice model generators; can create CUPL and JEDEC outputs.
Simulation model generators allow for the conversion of VHDL source files to models for simulation purposes. Since EDWin XP supports two forms of simulation - mixed mode and EDSpice, two model generators have been included - MM simulation model generator and EDSpice simulation model generator.
With a host of other new features not mentioned here, EDWin is a proven stable product that runs in the familiar Windows operating system environment.
