With the advent and growth of the cellphone industry, new technologies had to be developed by keypad manufacturers to aesthetically enhance their products. The major design request was for 'metallised' finishes either polished, or semi- matt in silvered or coloured material. Technological Rubber Company has developed these options and they are available in South Africa from Hillcor Holdings.
The first option is a spraying technique that gives a semi-matt metallised finish in colour. Colour options are available for individual keys ie, 'Call' and 'Off' buttons.
The second option is for 'bright polished' finishes where the keytops are ionised prior to the 'chromate' plating being applied. A combination of both these techniques can be applied to the keypad.
