500 W CompactPCI power supply more powerful

13 August 2003 Power Electronics / Power Management

Power-One claims that its 500 W CPA500-4530 has achieved a 25% leap in power, when compared to AC/DC products providing 350-400 W in 6U x 8HP packages, by using its patented efficient dual geometric edge (EDGE) technology.

Output current ratings also increased. Up to 50 A of +5 V and 60 A of +3,3 V are available. Two additional outputs provide +12 V at 12 A and -12 V at 3 A. These high currents are available from 0 to 50°C with 400 LFM of air, and from 50 to 70°C with derating.

Standard features which facilitate hot-swap parallel/redundant operation include a 47-pin Positronic (PICMG 2.11 compliant) connector; the +5, +3,3, and +12 V outputs have remote sense and current sharing capabilities; and all outputs have the FET equivalents of diode OR-ing. Additional features include EN6100-3-2 compliant power factor correction, front-panel mounted LEDs to provide visual input and output voltage status, over 80% efficiency, and a 90-264 V a.c. input range.

Internal protections include overcurrent, overvoltage, and overtemperature. Interface signals include inhibit, power fail, and temperature warning. This product is recognised to UL/cUL60950 and TUV licensed to EN60950, carries the CE Marking for the Low Voltage Directive 89/23EEC, and meets FCC and EN55022 Class A conducted EMI.
