Firms develop next-generation encryption technology

Hitachi, Mitsubishi Electric and NTT have jointly developed a next-generation encryption technology for exchanging electronic data and documents.

The companies said they developed an implementation technology of an elliptic curve cryptosystem which features more greatly enhanced security functions than the current systems and is expected to become a standard for e-governance and e-commerce in the future. The elliptic curve cryptosystem uses mathematical operations over elliptic curves and encrypts data using short key lengths at high efficiency while maintaining a high level of security. The technology is named 'Creserc'.

This is the world's first case of well-established leaders in the field of cryptography collaborating in the development of implementation technology by integrating their advanced skills and technologies.
